About Excel Risk Check

We're building tools that help finance teams trust their spreadsheets. Because when the numbers are wrong, everything that follows is wrong too.

Why We Built This

Excel Risk Check was born from frustration. We watched organizations make critical decisions based on spreadsheets that nobody had validated. We saw review findings that could have been prevented with basic formula checks. We experienced the sinking feeling of discovering an error after the numbers had already been reported.

The tools that existed were either too expensive for small teams, too complex for quick checks, or too limited to catch real problems. Enterprise solutions required procurement processes and implementation projects. Manual review was thorough but slow and inconsistent.

We wanted something different: a tool that anyone could use immediately, that caught the issues that actually matter, and that produced results you could trust and document. So we built it.

What We Believe

Spreadsheet validation should be accessible. You shouldn't need a six-figure software budget to check your formulas. That's why analysis is completely free โ€” from Fortune 500 companies to solo consultants. PDF reports are just $5 when you need formal documentation.

Speed matters. A validation tool that takes hours to configure isn't useful when you need results before tomorrow's meeting. We designed Excel Risk Check to deliver insights in seconds, not days.

Transparency builds trust. We show exactly what we check, how we score risk, and what each finding means. No black boxes, no mystery scores, no unexplained recommendations.

Simple beats complex. We could add hundreds of configuration options and edge-case checks. Instead, we focus on the issues that cause real problems in real spreadsheets. The defaults work because they're designed for actual use cases.

Our Approach

Excel Risk Check is built on a foundation of practical experience. We've analyzed thousands of financial models, budget spreadsheets, reconciliations, and reports. We've seen what goes wrong and why. Our validation rules target the specific patterns that lead to actual errors โ€” not theoretical edge cases.

The tool is designed to be opinionated but fair. We flag issues that genuinely increase risk, and we explain why. We don't waste your time with noise. When we say something is a problem, it's because we've seen it cause problems in practice.

We're also committed to continuous improvement. Every piece of feedback we receive influences the product. If our rules are missing something important, we want to know. If our explanations are unclear, tell us. This is a tool built for practitioners, and practitioners keep it honest.

Looking Forward

We're just getting started. The current version of Excel Risk Check handles the fundamentals โ€” formula validation, data quality, structural analysis, risk templates. But there's much more we want to do.

We're exploring ways to help teams track validation over time, compare versions of spreadsheets, and integrate checks into existing workflows. We're investigating how to make the tool more useful for specific industries and use cases. We're thinking about collaboration features for teams that share critical spreadsheets.

What we build depends on what you need. If you're using Excel Risk Check and have ideas for how it could work better, we genuinely want to hear them. The best features come from real problems that real users face.
